Spiny-cheek crayfish in Vilce river

This invasive crayfish (Orconectes limosus) what has become a big theat to the population of the European noble crayfish (Astacus astacus)

Now I have found one in southern Latvia, wich isn't a good sign, ofcourse.

Why is this crayfish a threat? Not only it more reproductive and can tolerate stronger water pollution, but as all North-american crayfish it carries the crayfish plague. It is a water mold that infects crayfish, most notably the European Astacus species which die within a few weeks of being infected.
